It is offshore. We have had it before. I think it is natures way off thinning the over-stocked fish population.

No reports of red tide offshore in our area. Unless you run 80 miles south
K brevis population explodes when light can penetrate deep in clear water. Maybe all the tannic water that killed( or slowed the regrowth) of our inshore sea grass, kept k brevis from blowing up in our area.

Just saw that
Recent satellite images from the Optical Oceanography Laboratory at the University of South Florida show an offshore surface bloom extending between Taylor and Pinellas counties, approximately 5 to 35 miles offshore between southern Taylor and northern Levy counties and 10 to 20 miles offshore southern Levy to Pasco counties.

I heard second hand, that there were a bunch of floating dead fish offshore this weekend. That is all I heard , don't know how far off or any other details. I hope it's not true

Just started a thread to share hard data on exact location / spread of the red tide. Would ask any / all board members who spot impact to share location so that others can follow / adjust plans accordingly.

Having been through the one that hit hard in the mid-2000s will say fishing can still be very good (maybe even better) outside the perimeter of the red tide impact. Will also say that we'll likely be seeing dead fish on shore soon even if the bloom doesn't reach the shore... floating fish still can / likely will. Finally, when you're in an area where the concentrations are high, not hard to tell... sonar won't show much of any life, and your nose & respiratory system will confirm you've found the zone. If you're asthmatic, be forewarned Karenia brevis is not asthma friendly at all.

Any impact of the redtide reported inshore for Horeshoe and the Shired Basin? My son and three of his buds are coming down to fish with me for the 11th.
