Removing stains off of the boat

There have been a few threads on the subject of the best way to remove stains. Some like bleach, I like oxallic acid( star brite slime and grime stain remover). But I had a couple of stains that wouldn't come off with either, so I soaked a magic eraser in the stain remover solution(instead of using water to moisten it), and there isn't a stain that I havend been able to remove with it. It may work with just water or bleach, but I haven't tried. This may be old news, not sure, but I wanted to pass it along anyway.

I've had good success with the FG Stain Remover from West Marine. A word of caution about using any of these type products, however. The acid will strip away any wax, so after the stain is removed and rinsed thoroughly with fresh water, it's a good idea to re-apply a coat of good marine wax to protect the fiberglass. The wax also makes it easier to clean up future dirt.

Salty Gator - Have you tried Barkeep? We like it better in the solution form rather than the powder.

What solution did you soak the eraser in? Was it Starbrite?

Yes Jim, soaked it in star brite "slime and grime" stain remover like you would normally soak them in water. Again, plain water may work, have't tried.

My wife found it in Walmart and Lowes with the cleaning supplies. The dry powder is in a can similar to a comet type can and the wet solution is in a tall plastic bottle. We like the wet better. It was highly recommended on the Carolina Skiff Forum and has worked for us very well especially on stainless.
