My black dog has never been out of FL before so the only upland he's ever chased would be snipe. We had an adventure with his very first airplane flight. And then coming to WA and getting to see rivers with rocks and mountains and hills. There were so many neat things for him to sniff and smell and enjoy...

Yesterday we headed out to one of our favoritist places to hunt quail and pheasant. Except for one single quail we didn't find the normal coveys that hang out up that canyon today but Drake did get his chance on a couple of pheasants....one for each of us.



We are looking forward to more days of chasing quail and pheasants that are looking to say hello to my black dog. The adventure this fall has begun with a very sweet beginning.

i lived out there in the early 80s in the tri-cities area we hunted out at Ice Harbor farm on the snake river
we always did good on pheasant

Thanks y'all. We're in the Dayton area....not too far from the Snake River. We may head over later in the week to that area for grouse and chukar.

We got into quail today that cooperated quite nicely. We were able to follow them from flush to flush to flush. I sure hope we can find another several coveys to do that with tomorrow.



One very interesting thing happened on the last place I hunted, Steve dropped me off at a little pond where we often have seen pheasants hanging around it. I started walking it and got up to the pond and flushed a flock of 50 bufflehead. Now, this is wheat country. In the mountains. I'm more likely to see an elk or a big horn sheep hanging around that pond. We only very occasionally see a duck, usually a mallard, on that pond. But 50 bufflehead?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Lordy were they lost.

And yup. I missed when they flushed.

I'll be getting more pictures of where we're hunting....it's gorgeous up here...
