Steinhatchee 10/25 - Bust

The admiral and I hit the water at the bottom of the tide this morning, lots of trailers in the parking lot. Started out south of the river on a fabulous morning... water was beautiful about 65 degrees with light winds spent an hour or so drifting the flats = 1 lizard fish (but a pretty good size one
)
Last trip south wasn't too good either so headed up north, breeze picking up from the north just a nice chop.
Fished till the top of the high tide right at 4ish, caught two short trout in about 4' of water... fished from 2.5' - 8' just nothing happening. Don't think the water ever got above 68 winds still out of the north and a little more choppy but no big deal. Within about a half mile of the #1 channel marker noticed some birds crashing bait, spun around and tossed the only thing I had handy, a gulp on a light jig, two serious hits but no hookups. I caught a glimpse of one looked like a nice Spanish, bait moved on and so did I.
I fished soft plastic jerk baits, live shrimp, gulp shrimp (jigs only and with a popping cork) and even a spinner bait just for something different. The two short trout came on a live shrimp/cork, lizardfish on a soft plastic. Drug a shrimp on a flat line all day just a few pinfish pecks. Still a good bit of floating grass, not as bad as a couple of weeks ago but a little much for top water. Water was real clear, lots of nice green grass. Never saw a mullet jump or much bait fish action other than as we left in 10' - 15' off the channel marker. Talked to a couple of guys at the ramp they didn't do anything either, never saw anyone near me catch a fish.
Seahag had plenty of shrimp and pinfish in the bait tanks... Maddies non-E gas was $3.52/gallon if I remember correctly... boat ran fine... me and the mrs. enjoyed a PB&J and shared a diet coke sitting on the cooler enjoying the nice weather
I guess that's why it is called fishing... not catching. It can only get better.
