I have a 3 year old heifer who is pregnant with her first calf, and I caught her nursing from her mother a couple months ago. The funny thing is, I'm pretty sure the mother had been dry for a long time. It was right after I moved them to a different farm, and I wonder if it was the stress of the move that made her regress. I think they sometimes do it as part of the mother-daughter bond rather than for actual sustenance.
