JoeFisher, Salty Dog and I headed out from Carrabelle Saturday morning in Joe's Cape Horn. Stopped at the bouy's and caught some hard tails and cigar minnows. Bait-getting was a little slow and we were anxious to get on out. As it turns out, we should have spent a little more time getting bait. Anyway, we made the run out to the Yamaha. There were several boats anchored up so our plan to drift fish wasn't going to work. We anchored up in the crowd and dropped baits. It didn't take long for the AJ's to find the baits. Problem was, they only wanted hard tails. We caught a few shorts but then managed a 29" and a 30-something". By then, we were out of hard tails and we never could manage the third keeper. AJ's were pretty thick out there and all the boats were hooking up with fish. After our live bait ran out we headed off to find some grouper. Stopped in the DI Ledges area in around 35-feet. Put three keeper gags in the box and Joe and SaltyDog decided to dive the area. They shot a couple of gags, three hog snapper and a sheephead. We moved around a little and managed another keeper gag and a red. Also caught a nice mangrove snapper and some rockies and grunts so we had quite a mixed bag of fish.
The dummy of the day award goes to yours truly. Keep in mind here that the AJ's were not hitting the cigar minnows. So, after running out of hard tails, I put a cigar minnow on but after soaking it for quite a while did not get any any hits. So, I decide to put the rod in the holder and get a drink. Bad move. About that time a freight train down below decided to eat that cigar minnow. I didn't even see it happen -- I heard a loud snap and turned around to see that my rod/reel were gone. The rod handle was floating by the boat but the rest of the rig was long gone.
Despite the loss of equipment, it was a great day on the water. Didn't limit out but we caught plenty of fish. Thanks Joe!

Keaton? But at the rate that fish was traveling, my rig might be at Keaton by now. Or more likely down in that wreck at the Yamaha for some diver to find.
