I remember us buying shrimp at the Aucilla landing in the 60's and using sawdust to keep them alive. It works.

The sawdust was damp, but I don't remember any ice. It was so cold back then we didn't need any ice. Does anybody remember fishing the river with big cane poles and corks? That's how Grandad fished, the pole was so heavy I could barely hold it up.

Depended on the weather. If cold enough, no ice. If not, ice was put in bottom of bucket, covered with paper, then sawdust and shrimp, then damp paper to cover.
