Getting ready to redo the deer stand.

This is before we removed the dead limbs. Were are going to rotate the stand about a foot or two forward on the stands left side looking towards plot. Image. This is after the limbs are down. My boy is planting seedling pines to grow up and give us more camouflaging from the plot. Image. Probably start taking the old stand apart next weekend. We also planted a couple hundred trees elsewhere on our property.

Today our job was to get the new base up and painted. Image. Image. This was by far the hardest part. My boy and I had to do some redneck Magiver-ing to get it up there. Once up it was smooth sailing. Image. Image. It used to face down the left tree line. Now we shifted it right to look dead center if the plot. Image. This pic shows how much we spun it in relation to the supports that attach to the original post. Image. Image. Here's my boy and helper with our job well done.

You can save yourself some money/weight next time by using 2x2 as the wall skeleton. The plywood provides the structure. Use liquid nails to join them and it will be just as strong and half the weight.

I did do that with some of the inside supports and used all weather wood glue. I just ripped 2x4's in half on the table saw.

Getting closer to completing the stand rebuild. Got the two front pieces in and the two side windows. Image. Really liking the new stand orientation. And the new views. Image. Image. Image. Now all that's left is the front swing up window, the door and the ladder. Image.
