Panama City area bays

We are planning a trip to Panama City toward the end of April. I am very familiar with the waters there, however, my experience has been totally recreational, no fishing.

Which bays and what areas should we concentrate on for trout and Reds? Not wanting numbers, just general areas to catch fish.

We will have the boat at Bay Point, but will be traveling all the bays, East, North, and West.

If the water is right, we also will venture out into the gulf, but I got numbers for that, and also know you can get the kings to tear up your tackle in the channel out from the the cut.

Never fished that area, so it will be an adventure!

Chalk. I know you know this area very well. Are you even on here anymore?

I've fished there a pretty good bit but nothing close to what someone who is a local would. these are the three best spots I've fished. they produced a lot of fish so either the spots are decent or I was just lucky those days.

if you take a look at the picture below I drew a red line from the bridge that we put in at and where we ran too. you'll see a very long dock on the left side of that mouth when you come up on the entrance. you'll also see a long line of white poles marking the channel. fish the edge of that channel and around those docks. we've caught trout and reds there. out in front of the old air strip and behind the island that is front of it is a little deeper and you can pick up a fish or two there too.

the two red circle's are just two small flat's that have held fish for me in the past. I hope this helps

if all else fails. go to half hitch and buy a hot spot map.

Thanks dombern34, this is exactly the kind of general info I was looking for. I know that area well, have actually been up in that canal by the old airport! Like I said, at that time, we were just joyriding with friends.

Look around the mouths of the bayous - fish should be moving out of the ICW and backwaters. Place is like a bowl - not too many large flats - fish drop off's for trout
If you are at Baypoint start there and across the pass in the "narrows" - good for a lot of things in there

Been here 10 years if I want to go trout fishing I go to St. Joe :o
