Destin fishing in mid April

Friends:
Mid April I will be spending a weekend in Destin with some buddies for an "event." We plan to do some fishing and I wanted some recommendations. I specifically anticipate surf fishing or possibly off the pier. Any advice would be appreciated!

I'll be camping over there at Topsail the weekend of the 17th. Gonna bring the kayak over and try to get into some fish. Hopefully someone will post on here thats been out that way recently.

I used to fish over there off the pier. It should be great this time of year. The jetties at the pass were a prime shore fishing spot. Lots of everything out there. The west jetty was a very long hike with gear. We'd take backpacks and water to drink.
