St Marks 4/2

Fished from 12-330 and caught 2 18" trout and a 27" monster spainish mackerel.
Didn't catch any shorts or anything else but a good day I say.
Water temp was ~72 degrees and I caught both trout in 6' of water almost dead south from the lighthouse. They are timid biters right now and felt more like pinfish bites vs a hit so keep that line tight. The trout that is that mackerel did what you'd expect.. Tried to smoke my reel.
Couple of other boats back at the ramp had a similar day and same story about the nibbles.

I almost forgot.
The FWC presence was insane.
While driving past the fort launch I got caught up in an armada of 20 or so FWC boats. If 50 boats were out today 35-40 were FWC.
Shockingly I didn't get stopped.

FWC has been doing training drills for the new academy candidates the last couple of days. The students need to practice boat-handling skills, inspections, etc. so that's what you saw.

Any day on the water is a good day. Be careful with those 27" spanish -- easy to mix in a juvenile king there.

Even if it was a juvie king, it was legal by 3 inches( assuming he measured to the fork)

Yes. The only issue with snake kings (which eat better than either Spanish or big kings, IMO) is taking more than two per person thinking they are big Spanish. I've seen it happen.

Good point Salty Gator. My comment was broader than that particular fish. Heat up the grease and toss 'em in it!

I usually go with stripes vs spots for spainish(king-stripes/ovals spainish- spots). I've caught many of the 2 and don't really think they look alike. The spainish also usually have a greenish hue to them.
