Keaton 5-13

Had a good trip to Keaton yesterday, left ramp at 9:15 on rising tide , made it out of canal and was greeted with at least 15 kt. wind. We thought about not going out, then took our time going and made it to Dekle Beach in 3-4 ft. water. Rigged up and caught some bait, 1 small keeper Spanish and 3 16'' trout. We didn't do anything on plugs, fished small pins under CT and just drifted-we had enough wind out of the southeast that we just went up the coast. Made it down to Adams Beach and I got the biggest trout I ever caught-a 5 1/2 pounder on big pinfish. Wife then got a 4- pounder and 3- pounder out of same area. We couldn't believe the size of those trout- and they bit in all that wind. It was hard to cast out, and we fished mostly sitting down. We never cranked the motor and moved all day- just drifted. reminded me of the old days when we drift fished and got into trout . Quit at 2 pm with 6 trout, 1 Spanish and some hand-size spots. One of those marine fisheries guys that likes to measure your fish and ask all the questions was at the ramp when we got in, admired our catch and said a boat he checked ahead of us had 2 keeper trout, but they wern't near as big as the ones we got.
It was a really enjoyable day, better than we thought it would be with all the wind. Neva got a big saltwater gar out there, but he went back after we took his picture. Them things is ugly!!
