Question??

What if anything do you do to your motor after a saltwater trip? I always flush the motor with fresh water. And, wash the outside good with soap and water.
Had a little flooding (gas) problem this weekend, and had to take the cover off the motor. I noticed some salt in various places on the motor. Is it okay to spray the motor off. Should I hook up the hose, and crank the motor before spraying it? Is there some type of soultion I should spray on the motor??
Any suggestions?

We always fresh water flush and run the fuel out of the engine....We used to spray the motor with T1 (?) Lubricant/anti corrosive....Probably couldn't hurt to just spray the motor while running with the cowl off. I'm thinking using a spray wax too for a little added protection and shine

I always take the cowling off, and rinse/flush the motor real good. When I'm satisified I've gotten all the salt off, I spray her down with WD40. I'm sure there are some folks who will say it's not a good idea, but it's never caused me any problems, and I can't recall any time when I've had rust under my cowling. :D

Kyle at Bainbridge Marine told me to ALWAYS take your cover off, and with your motor trimmed down in the running position, wash everything with soap and water then rinse off. Leave the cover off and the boat in the sun for a day or so to dry. Then spray down the motor with your favorite water displacing lubricating spray. I use spray silicone and have zero rust or corrosion.

I always remove the cowl and spray the motor. I was told if salt gets on your plug wires and is not removed, it can act as a conductor and cause your plugs to fire cooler, or mis-fire.
