Sunken boat on on flats near the lighthouse

Was drifting the flats about 1/4 mile east of the St. Marks lighthouse Saturday late morning and came up on a small boat sunk to the bottom in about 5-6 feet of water. Had a red gas tank and a red life vest tied to a rope apparently to mark it and keep the fuel out of the water. We spotted an FWC patrol boat and showed them where it was; they had just heard of it but did not know the coordinates. We fished for a while longer nearby and watched another FWC boat arrive on the scene and an aircraft circle a few times.
Anyone have any info on what happened?

That sounds really weird. I wonder if it might be a drug boat that sank, had somebody pick them up. Those guys are known to operate in the big bend area.

If I were a drug smuggler,I don't think I would tie a marker to my boat.

Maybe they found one of JT's holes and wanted to make sure they could find it again?

Maybe they were on one of JT's holes and refused to pay the fee and he scuttled it.
