SGI Lionfish removal

A buddy showed me this. Apparently the guy was killing lionfish out from St. George Island, when he got the surprise of a lifetime! Great White!

Cool video. Those lionfish are thick down there. I don't care how easy it is to put fish in the box w a spear, that's why I don't do it :thumbup:

Yeah, one of the more surprising parts of the video for me was the number of lionfish. I had no idea they were that thick!

Nor do a lot of other people. It really is shocking how quickly they're spreading. Fortunately, there is a growing seafood market for them. I wrote a feature on removal efforts for the next issue of TIDE. One of my sources was a part-time diver in Apalach who makes enough to pay for his hobby. I haven't eaten lionfish yet, but I'm told they're delicious. Described as a cross between hogfish and snapper. Sharks or no sharks, let's hope they kill as many of the little buggers as they can. :thumbup:

I'm thinking it would be a lot easier to get one of those underwater vacuum machines they use to dredge for gold to just suck those lionfish up. You could really clean up fast.
