Kingfish Rampage!

Launched at dawn looking for some cobia action.
Started out pretty slow but eventually they showed up.
Alas, couldn't find a keeper. Boated three at 32", lost several.
As it got hotter we were expecting things to slow down...wrong!
The tide turned and (just after mentioning maybe some kings would show) it was on!
One drag screaming hookup after another. Of course they wouldn't touch anything with wire so we lost most of them on the floro rigs (I've never hooked one on wire around here). Every fish close enough to see was a boat record. Off the chain action with a lot of groaning.
Managed to get a 49 incher in the box. Boat record!

Gorgeous day on the water. They are gonna have some awesome results in the tourney this weekend.

Feel the pain on the short cobes, Woopty. Batting 100% on the cobes during trips offshore this year, but all actually put in the boat have been a few inches shy... on the bright side, have tagged them all.

Awesome trip report... catching those kings is fun, fun, FUN! :smt045

Try very short wire leader no more than 8 in. Tie straight to mono. or floro. No swivel , works very well for us with dead or live bait.

I agree on the short leader. I've never had the line above the leader cut or broken by a king using a 8" wire leader.
