Got to go today

Left the dock about 8:00. Caught bait on DIR, then off we went. Hit the first spot in 65 ft. only 2 keeper gags and a couple of shorts. Then the next spot was 90 ft. We caught 16 gray snapper, 1 lane, and 1 keeper AJ. Saw a school of huge permit at this spot along with a couple of big jack crevalle. We then started working our way in and fished a couple more spots. Final tally: 8 gags, 3 red grouper, 16 grays, 1 lane, 1 AJ. Seas were smooth, fish were somewhat biting, and green algae was everywhere. What's with that stuff? I think we would have caught our limit of grouper if the algae wasn't around. Everytime we'd reel up, that stuff would be all over the weight and bait.

I don't get to go offshore much, but I've heard about this green slime. I also wonder what it is, and how it affects the fish.
Even though you didn't wear the grouper out, sounds like you were on the fish. Good trip.

Did you run SE or SW? I've heard the gorrilla snot was bad SE but you normally don't see it off carrabelle/lanark. It is an algae that blooms at depth when we have unusually clear water offshore early in the year like we've had this year.
It will die off when the water gets a little warmer.

I didn't encounter any "Gorilla Snot" to the S or SW of Dog Island from 5 mi on out to 22mi out yesterday. Must be more to the East.
You did better than we did....you brought home some keepers.

We had the brown algae all over every spot (55-45') we were fishing this week off Dog Island. Ug, but still fish bit.
