Can you hunt in downtown East Point? Saw one 1/2 mile from SGI bridge a month ago, and of course there was the attack behind the post office in Dec.

Anyone who had there buck butchered at Big Top knows why there there was a bear attack around the corner. Bears can smell deer carcass for over a mile. Whatever happened to personal responsibility? Oh yeah, the bears are paying in the most personal way.

I have no problem with bear hunting if it is part of a management plan where there is sufficient population. I don't agree with hunting as a solution for bears in populated areas where they are attracted by unsecured garbage or improperly disposed deer

You can't fault a bear for following its nose.

The way I hear it,that it is over populated and this is a management plan to deal with a problem created by FWC and others. I wouldn't think you could fault the folks attacked either ?

My understanding is that the population count is not yet complete. In no way am a acing blame on folks that happen to be on the wrong place. I am saying that personal responsibility should require those that live in bear populated areas to dispose of garbage and particularly deer carcasses in a fashion that does not attract beats.

About five less than it was before the girl was attacked. Interesting info on the Big Top. I would hope someone has had a meeting with them. That doesn't give the bears much of a chance. I know there are a lot of aromas around East Point. Its not surprising at all there are bear close around.

Population estimates from 2011 had the estimated bear population exceeding 3,000. For comparison, Georgia was estimated to have a bear population around 5,000, with a human population of 10 million. Florida's population is nearly twice that, at just under 20 million.

Florida’s bear hunting season will open Oct. 24 and will last at least through Oct. 25, but could run as long as seven days ending on Oct. 30, depending on if and when a Bear Management Units bear harvest objective is met.
Bear hunting permits will cost $100 for residents and $300 for nonresidents.
Hunters will be limited to buying only one permit, which will allow the harvest of one bear per permit.
Hunting bears with dogs or over bait is not allowed.
On private property, game feeding stations may continue to be used as long as the feed is what is typically used for deer or hogs. To harvest a bear on private land, both the hunter and bear must be more than 100 yards away from any game feeding station.
