August 7-Shell Point

Took off work today because I put in about 60 hours last weekend working a national softball tournament. Took a buddy from work who works hard every single day in our equipment shed with no AC and has more than earned it. Put in at shell point before sunrise and ran to first honey hole. He puts 2 slot trout and a 22 inch trout in the boat right away throwing topwater. I told him I could have him to the office by 8 if he was ready to go and started looking around thinking I was holding my mouth wrong!

Image

Shortly thereafter he had a big red try to eat his plug and miss. He threw right back in the same spot and caught this 32 inch beauty, his biggest yet.

She swam away for another day!

Once that spot stopped producing I wanted to run to another bar while it was still covered up with water. Got there and I got in on the action with my personal best trout, slightly over 25 inches. Released her to keep breeding.

Image

Not long after that I got a solid red just under 27 inches.

Hooked another red in that spot but he ran straight to the bar and broke me off because it was starting to come out of the water at that point.

Ran to a few more bars and my partner added a lower slot red to the mix. He went home happy with 2 reds and 3 trout for dinner. All fish caught on topwater plugs.

It was better than working!
