There must be a picture missing in the sequence ... the one where the snake's head got separated from its body.

Get close enough it works OK ... but the point of the pistol or preferably the shotgun is to avoid getting close. It will not cycle the action in a semi-auto if that is the issue. 115g Hollow Points work pretty well

Never w a 9 , but a .45 shots shell works like a charm. I have some for the .38 but never used them, I'll let you know how f I do.

Read up on your owners manual for the 9mm before putting snake shot in it. It can damage some pistols.

Bit by a rattler and a cottonmouth is something you don't hear everyday. I'd bet there is an interesting story behind both of those.

I don't kill either type in general, but I ALWAYS wear snake leggings when hiking through the St Marks Refuge or Econfina salt marsh to wadefish. Some really impressive rattlers in the palmetto scrub at the coast. A rattler bite while on foot three miles from the car pretty much means game over.
On the bright side, at least rattlers don't usually aggress, unlike those ornery cottonmouths.

As a general rule I don't kill them unless they are at my house then I will move them ,but if they give me any trouble I will blow there head OFF .this one never tried to bit me or strick at me even when I hooked it for a better look ,it did rattle at me one time , and I do know they hurt when they strick even if you are wearing leggings, as for the cotton mouths I don't get that close to them
