My old Motor Guide that came on my boat finally croaked. The motor housing got brittle and let in salt water and it died. The rest was not worth repairing, so I started a hunt for a new model. I settled on what I wanted (Minn Kota)and my local mechanic carries the line I wanted, but before I pulled the trigger I went on eBay. Found the exact model I wanted - brand new but with a damaged box (which would have been tossed 20 minutes after opening anyway. I bid on it and ended up saving almost $200 off retail and still get a brand new warrantied TM. It ended up only costing me $100 over the last used one I bought.

Nice on the MK. I've gotten some great deals over the years on eBay and have sold a bunch of stuff too, with no hassles.

Prefer to shop local but oftentimes you can find better prices for the exact same item or find things that aren't available locally. Just bought an Apple external hard drive/wireless hub with expedited shipping for $130. Nobody else in town had one.

Being in the biz, though, I rarely pay retail for fishing or boating stuff. Perks of the profession.
