It seems that the red grouper are too abundant this year, so NOAA decided it's time to shut down the season, which makes perfect sense in a bizzaro world.

This is the reason for selling my offshore boat. Why go out there if you can't keep nothing! Crazy.

More I think about this the more frustrated I get.
I'm no biologist but It just seems that there's very little logic.

This is exactly why groups like CCA are important.

Using survey data against us. "We caught RG today" - oh so many are being caught we must close it. "we didnt catch RG today" - oh there must not be any we must close it

Sadly EXACTLY right.

Sadly, ALSO EXACTLY right. Thankful I have a 22' Panga that lets me feel halfway ok with going out deep when the the moon, stars, planets and galaxies perfectly align and winds are forecast for calm and no storms are predicted. Even if I won the lottery I don't know that I could find it in my heart to buy a bigger offshore boat only to have my blood pressure raised regularly by such insanely ever-changing regs.

More nonsensical actions by your socialist central planning center at the Whitehouse! Folks were warned, but sportsman obviously didn't get out to keep this group from having a 2nd term. First bad climate science and now no-science fishery decisions. Go team! Forward! :smt011

I really didn't intend for this one to devolve into a political discussion, but I feel I must point out that this closure is in compliance with the Magnuson Stevenson Act, which was last amended in 2006, a few years before this group took office.

I'm sure your intentions weren't to make this political, but there are some on here that blame everything on the current administration. And there are some that blame it on the last administration. Thanks for the heads up

Not really a political comment. It is more a comment about the well documented lack of current research upon which to base decisions under the Magnuson Stevenson Act, which requires reasonable regulation. Regardless of the party in the whitehouse, we have not had any good scientific research on the gulf fish stocks lately and therefore any good regulation.

Also, unfortunately, much of the regulation is done based on political agenda. This administration came in saying it was going to save the fish stocks. Laudable, until we fishermen find out two things 1) they don't care about recreational fishermen and 2) they don't care about updating their scientific information. Instead, it is voodoo/knee jerk regulation.

Really? To say that comment isn't political is rediculous. It doesn't say anything about lack of research or flawed data. The words are there for us all to read. It suggests its Obamas fault and our fault for his reelection . And a nice little jab at climate change to boot. Not political, my eye

The problem with your analysis is that you forget that Obama isn't running again. If he isn't a candidate, critics of his administration are no longer political, they are historical. One of the main climate scientist just came out and said it was a hoax. That group is growing. It was fresh on my mind. It is part of a pattern of the government. I am anti-government growth, regardless of party. If you think this all good, then carry on!

Now had I said that the wicked witch was going to continue these patterns or that Bernie was going to finish the job of government take over of our fisheries, that would be political. :smt005

This is political. There is no way you can spin it to say it isn't. Come on, the words are right there. ( not complete without the jab at climate change) . The more you try to argue that it's not political, the worse you look. Just admit you made a mistake and let's move on

Policy created from fishermen talking to bureaucrats interpreted by politicians. What could go wrong?
