Wife and I fished Friday through Monday. Most days the water was slick as glass, water temp 82 degrees. Fished in 7.5 feet of water most of the time south of the channel. Friday gave us a lot of shorts, 6 keeper trout 1 bass, 1 shark. Saturday 8 keepers 16 to 19.5 inches, lots of shorts again another shark and 1 spanish. Sunday the breeze was a little better, 8 keepers with my wife catching her first trout over 20 ". Man was she happy

coup[le blue's and 1 bass. Monday breeze a little better . Had a limit at 3:00 pm. Hooked a spinner shark on cut bait dragging behind the boat, got three good jumps before the 12lb line gave out. Hooked into something that pulled out 150 yards of line before I could get the rod out of the holder. Never got a hook in it and when I got the bait back in didn't even have any teeth marks in it

. Great coup[le days on the water
If someone could copy this to the other forum Northwest section I would appreciate it. Save me a lot of typing

Sounds like a fine trip out on the water.

The one that spooled you could have been Tarpon, but then again who knows.

Good fishing Jim. Sounds like a cobia that hit you. That's just the way they hit sometimes. Going down Friday night. Bet the crowd will be a nightmare this weekend.

I kinda wondered if it was maybe a Cobia when I didn't find any teeth marks. Lot of small sharks around but I think they would have left marks or pulled the bait off. You are right about the crowd this weekend. I usually stay away from the water Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends due to the influx of idiots. Good Luck ! Be careful . I'll probably be down the following weekend. Let us know how you do.

Yes wevans, I have always loved Tiki bars at boat ramps.

Before we bought our lot we used to stay at Captains Quarters at Keaton. My BIL and I spent a lot of afternoons sitting there having a

watching the ramp antics. Especially entertaining during scallops season

And every once in awhile you would get to help someone that appreciated the advice or hand and you hoped it would make it easier for them next time.

Memorial Day Weekend, Independance Day Weekend, and Labor Day Weekend are designated amateur weekends. I generally don't put my boat in the water on designated amateur weekends. I have, however, done exactly what you're thinking, Wevans. A friend had a house at Mashes Sands. We would grab a cooler, some chairs, and an umbrella about mid afternoon. It is entertaining.
