Recommendations on small motor checkout?

My dad is gifting me a small boat/trailer & 4 hp Johnson kicker, circa 1977. Only 40 hours on the motor; stored for 30 years. Dad did all the proper steps for long term storage, but I still want to get it checked out. Anybody have a recommended shop for this sort of checkout?

Gary,
Shields Marina in St. Marks has done a number of restoration projects. They are on display at the Ship's Store. They will be able to check out your new motor and get you on the water.

850-925-6158. They're closed on Mondays.

Gary -

I can't find your cell number. Call or text me when you have a chance (850) 509-3116.

Thanks - Steve Stinson

It will probably run good if he did the dry storage and ran all the gas out of the carb. Might need a new water pump if hasn't been used in that long. I have Grandaddy's old 10HP Sportwin and it runs every time I take it out to crank. I wouldn't run ethanol gas in it. Good luck.

Wow, a 1950s 3hp! I thought I had an antique with this 40 yr old Johnson! Thanks for the tips, guys. Looking forward to cranking this thing for the first time since I was a 9th grader learning about bass in Avon Park.

X2 for Porter. Been honest and fair in my experience.
