Just curious to hear from the local (TLH area) freshwater fisherman, 1) do the local waters hold grass/glass shrimp, and if so 2) anybody net them and use them for panfish?

Been focused on big bass this past year, but with a seven year old daughter in 2016 I want to do a better job than I did in 2015 helping her grow a love for the outdoors, water, and fishing. Know I can catch plenty of panfish from our pond with crickets and worms, but netting some freshwater shrimp would be something I would enjoy doing with her as a new experience this coming spring.

Pond is 30 acres with a healthy ring of lily pads and grass around nearly the entire perimeter, so guessing the waters will hold them if other area waters do too.

The answer is sometimes....I lived on a pond off Bradfordville Rd. in NE Tallahassee that had them in it. I could take a minnow net and get a long scoop of weeds inside the net, then dump it and find grass shrimp in the weeds. I moved out toward Monticello about 8 mos. ago, again on a pond. I can't seem to find any in the pond I am on now.
I agree, that if you can find them, they work great. I have also tied flies that look like grass shrimp and had a lot of success with those.

At the pond I am on now, I throw a large cup of fish food pellets off the dock once a day. The water will just boil with bream, bluegill and shiners all eating the food as fast as it hits the water. I can sit on my dock and catch a lot of fish on just dough balls since I have been feeding them. The food I use is called wild gamefish food and comes in a blue-colored 25 lb. bag from Tractor Supply.

I've taken a torn up net off a fish net, covered it with window screen and used it to dip up grass. The shrimp will be in the grass. Go under the grass an up to catch more. They are not in all lakes.

They are all around. We would catch them in ditches as kids... killer bream bait at lake Jackson

Appreciate the responses and glad to hear they're in some of the local waters.

Also appreciate if I find them they'll require a bit more mess/work than other methods, but just one of those "try at least once" sort of things I want to do for the learning lesson as well as grins and giggles with the young-un.

Used to buy grass shrimp in Chattahoochee. Last convenient store before the river. Used to call it Bass's, but that may have changed.
