Motor won't stay up

I have a 2004 Yamaha 90 2-stroke outboard. Last year sometime, while the boat was on the trailer in my yard, I raised the motor. After an hour or two, I noticed the motor was down. I bled the motor. It seemed to take longer, but after awhile the motor would still come down. Yesterday, while raising the motor while it was on the trailer, I noticed a gurgling, noise when raising the motor. Does this sound like a seal problem? Or is it normal for the motor to come down after awhile? I'll try bleeding it one more time, but if it's a bad seal problem, that would be too much for me and time for the shop. Thanks for any comments.

If it's full of fluid, probably a seal.

If it is a seal, you need to check the shaft for burs or pits. If the shaft on the ram is not smooth, it will continue to ruin the seals when you put new ones in there.

Older Yammys are prone to trim/tilt system failures. It's one of the few things that ever fail on those 90 2-smokes. They are generally bulletproof.

You may want to consider taking it to a Yamaha mechanic. Pete at Sunshine Boats and Motors can fix it with his eyes closed. 850 576-5134

Do it NOW. If you wait a couple of weeks and the weather even hints of warming up all the boat mechanics will be weeks behind......overnight. :(

There's got to be a Viagra joke lurking here but you've already gotten excellent advice from previous posters.

Update: Went to Parkway Marine. Fred said they don't replace seals. I have two choices. Replace the entire lift unit for $2700.00 or try replacing the check valve. Replacing the entire lift unit is out of the question. I'd use that money towards a new motor if I chose. I'm gonna try bleeding it again. This may be something I just live with. Or try a different shop.....

I don't know if they make any of this for boat hydralics, and I wouldn't do it to mine, but I know you can buy this stuff to add to motoroil in cars that makes all the rubber seals in your engine swell. If you have a leaky gasket, the swelling seals it off.
