I found out today, while preparing for fishing tomorrow, that the outer seal is chewed up, gear oil dripping out. There a wad of mono wound around the shaft, mixed in with metal shavings and pieces of rubber.
One suspects this is not good.
The color of the mono looks like what my fishin buddy uses, but thats another issue.
Question: Anyone had a lower unit redone recently?
Where did you take it and how much did it cost??
I've cancelled my trip tomorrow!!

Sorry to hear about your lower unit. That's why it pays to pull the prop occasionally to check for line and to grease the shaft.
Shields Marina in St. Marks is a Honda dealer if that's any closer than Perry. Haven't had any experience with their service department, but Waymon (Jack's) is a good guy.

I replaced the seals in my Mercury 40 last year and it was a piece of cake. Just take lots of pictures when you take everything out so you know how to put it back together.
My seals weren't bad, but I had a busted bearing carrier and I replaced all of my seals while I had the foot opened up. There are plenty of youtube videos that can help you out as well.
