Steinhatchee Flats Fishing Report

Had a nice 4D/3N in Steinhathee. One day the boat trip was just tooling up the river since the fog on the flats was too thick for my liking - fog literally sat there all day.

The two days we got out on the flats we had some fun. Fished grubs straight line, under a popping cork, and fished a red/white sinking mirror lure. Probably caught 50 trout between the two trips. Probably 8 keepers. One nice blue fish. One nice, unexpected flounder when I was on the phone and not really working it. One really nice Spanish probably 28" (could have targeted more - they were in force on the bait pods in deeper water). Caught a shark - prefer not to. No reds. :( Was concerned about taking my boat into the shallower places where the reds are.

Best jig was white with orange tail. Really enjoyed the action on the mirror lure - caught that large Spanish on it and several trout. Caught fish in 4-7' of water. We went north up the coast from the river mouth as far as just below Big Grassy Island. Getting nice out there. Early signs says this will be a much better year than last year.

BTW - Gulf Breeze are some great condos to stay at in Steinhatchee.

Happy fishing everyone.

  Sounds good, Big Grassy is close to where I usually fish this time of year. Now I can't wait to go. :-)
