4/9 Report

Did someone forget to tell the wind that March is over? Looked at the tides and wind report Friday afternoon. High in the late afternoon with winds decreasing after 11AM (NOAA) so I put the old Pro behind the truck and didn't leave home until 9AM. On I10, by truck's egr valve decided to stick and suddenly I look like the mosquito fogging truck. Get off of I10 and add some seafoam. The truck quit smoking soon after that.

Was planning on putting in at Rock Landing. Got to Crum's mall at about 11 and it looked like a zoo, but the wind wasn't laying. Ran into a local and he said the crabbers were cussing the weatherman and drinking beer, because NOAA missed it bad and the wind was climbing.

Decided to go fish behind Dog Island. Got to the Lanark ramp and everyone seemed to have decided the same thing. Since I now have a place close by, I gave up a $100 to join the ramp club for a year. Put in and moved around. Caught a trout and realized that both the net and the ruler were safely stored in the truck. Made a guess and culled the first couple of fish, then put two solid trout in the boat. I had three crew members and none of them were doing any catching at this point. Set up another drift and we start picking up some shorts and the wind does a 180 on us.

I put another keeper in the box and release 2 to grow up. I look back and here comes another boat and he anchors directly in the path of my drift. When we got closer, I actually had to crank up and move forward to miss him. Even with the gps track, I couldn't recreate that drift.

Finally, one of my crew adds a keeper to the box.

The wind isn't dropping at all, in fact it is climbing. So finally the youngest among us who has caught zero fish decides he is hungry, so we pull back in to wait our turn to pull out.

Pull out go to the house, flush engine, rinse gear and I decided to leave the boat so that maybe the engine won't be put under as much strain to cause the egr to stick again.

Stop by Coastal and have a great meal. While eating at Coastal, a gal I know who lives in Pancea is hitting me on facebook that I should be at Posseys, because that is where all the locals eat. I'm looking at locals in Coastal while responding to her.

Made it home without further incident.

You know what, it beat the heck out of mowing the yard! :smt005

Sorry to hear about the frustrating truck problem, but I got a good laugh out of how you described it as the "mosquito fogging truck". I fought that wind too, so I know what you mean. At least you got out.
