I will never spend $300 plus for a cooler. But I did find a great product that means you'll never need one. It's called BIG ICE TRAYS. Each tray makes 6 4" cubes. I bought two. . On a recent 3 day fishing trip the afternoon before I put two buckets of ice and 24 cubes my igloo. . I added some seawater to the cooler on the first day. And after 3 days worth of fish and many openings and closings I got home and still had cubes this big. .

Look into RTic. 1/2 the price of Yeti and looks almost identical.

That is a cool product. Where did you get them? Yetis used as a drink cooler don't outperform regular igloo and Coleman coolers because your opening and closing them so often. So if that is what you are looking for, then save your money and get a regular marine cooler. The real advantage is being able to stand on them to improve your vantage point. That's really it. They are smaller on the inside( hold less ) and really don't hold ice longer unless it isn't opened. Thanks again

That's a good idea, with big bags of ice costing around 2 bucks now. My Dad used to freeze a big dishpan full of water the night before we fished, it lasted just about all day. I have an old red Coleman I've had for years, replaced hinges several times and just keep using it. I don't see spending an enormous amount on a cooler, just gas to get there costs me enough .

where did you buy the ice trays. thank you

Got them from bigice.com. They work great. But you have to run water over the bottom to loosen. Can't just twist.

My dad does the same thing freezing ice in milk jugs and big juice bottles.

This and as it melts it is a back up source of fresh water.

Same here. Gallon milk jugs, 2-liter soda bottles, medium size Gatorade bottles & 16oz water bottles. From big to little to fit into any space.

The 2" ice blocks also work well in a whisky to keep the drink cool without watering it down.

I use two liter bottles, half gallon milk jugs, etc. too. Most of the time I just fill up some gallon and quart zip lock bags and freeze them. I don't fill them completely so they are fairly flat on the sides and stack better. A layer over the bottom of the cooler with a bag or two of ice over them will last a long time. You've got fresh drinking water when they melt if you get in an emergency situation too.
