Fishing St. Augustine

Post by Dixie Dawg »

I'm going to St Augustine for the week next week and I'm going to take my boat. I've done some reading online about fishing the area but I have not nor has anyone I know. I'm just wanting to do some inshore/backwater fishing and any general information as far as which landing you prefer or tides or just anything useful would be appreciated from some of you that know the area. I know this sort of thing is usually frowned upon but figure it might be okay since it's not in our topic range.

There is a great public ramp on the north side of St. Augustine just across from Comanchee Cove Marina. Put in there and head north. Work the bars and creek points for reds and grass flats for trout. Haven't been in awhile, but used to do pretty good up there.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

Thanks for the input. I know there are a handful of ramps around and I'll probably do my best to check out as many areas as the wife will allow on our vacation.

I put in at Devil Elbows Fish camp on the south end of St Augustine a couple of years ago, decent ramp they had bait etc. ramp fee was $5 I think. Not much in the way of grass flats in that area of the ICW mainly mud flats and oyster bars. Lots of traffic on the ICW as well, everything from jet skis to big yachts, according to some local friends more grass flats type terrain north and south of that general area. Didn't catch a whole lot but it was early August and HOT so not the best time to be fishing period.
