rolled over to destin for two days of deep water fishing from 85' out to 265'. if we caught 1 red snapper, we caught 60. they are alive and well over there. found a "new" ledge in 171' that was absolutely massive in area with 10'-15' of relief . it held big red snapper, and smallish speckled hind and snowy grouper, and aj's. day 3 we came back to familiar #'s off st george for a 5 hr quick trip and finally got the big gags we were looking for, plus some nice sized aj's and lane snapper. fish hit ly's and live key west grunts (specially prepared to give em that "extra" enticement needed to call in the MAC DADDY grouper). seas were 1-2 sat/sun and /2-3 on mon am, then 1' in the pm. also saw mahi zoom by the boat on sat and sun, so the water is definately getting warmer.

DeSoto is 65 miles south of P-cola, and water where we troll is 1800-2400 ft deep. You get wahoo, dolphin, tuna, and marlin. This place, the further out you go once you get there, gets down to over 10,000 ft deep, but that's 120 miles offshore and too far out for the boats we've got. If there was no water there, it would be twice the size of the grand canyon and deeper! Can you imagine all the upwelling going on out there? The gulf loop hits the side of that wall and all the nutrients go straight up which brings in the baitfish, weedlines, rips, etc and not too far behind are the tasty critters!
