Myself, wife, and son arrived at the fort about 6:30 this mornin to meet FS forum member whendrix and his wife for a day on the flats. Launch was uneventful until.. :o what the heck the sterring is stuck, finally broke it loose and we continued on to meet up with whendrix.

If you did not have live shrimp catchin was tuff. Picked up the shrimp and off we were to our destination, not all that far from the Lighthouse. I used a few shrimp but figured I woul leave them for the wifey to catch whatever chewed on the bait. Sure did not want her to get bored and frustrated. She had a good time playing with the lady fish jumpin around after they were hooked, but she wanted a keeper Trout but not this time. She did manage a few shorts.. Have not weined her off the towel yet but we are tring. :-D

Son ended up with the biggest of the day, a plump 18"

And we ended with 4 keepers, some shorts, ladyfish, and the dreaded hardheads.

The highlights for the day. I was reeling in cause I new a pesky pin snatched my shrimp, and watched a Cobia follow the CT all the way to the boat. WOW, was not ready for that and picked up whatever I had to throw, (no pins) but not this round. Well we are out of live shrimp so I decide since this is all they are eating I'am gonna try, something I have never caught anything on, a shrimp color DOA. Well I catch a short, hey maybe this is good. Then I am reeling it back in to make another cast, ans a Trout follows it back. I cast about 8 feet past him, and its gets nailed, and I catch my first keeper on a DOA. Nice day on the water until about 10:30 then no wind, or water moving and its gettin hot. Played round a little more and left before noon.

8ft Shakespeare Centennial 5101. Not an expensive one, but sure works great with the Uniden Polaris.

Had similiar luck at Aucilla Friday. The calender said don't go...but I had the day off....just enjoyed the outing. Hung the biggest gar I've ever seen....must have gone 20 lbs. He went for 1/2 lb live pin fish. Folks are right....big bait...big fish. :P

I seem to have more luck on the ugly red-speckly small DOAs than on the big ones that actually look like shrimp. I mean, if I was a fish I'd go for the shrimp looking ones. But then again, I'm no fish...
