Finally got a full weekend off. Decided to catch up on domestic affairs. (cut grass, weed out flower beds, watch fishing on ESPN.) Best friend and his wife showed up at the house Sat. morning with his new Key Largo. They were headed to Keaton and stopped by to see if we wanted to go with them. (by the way he lives in Gainsville Fl.) Not much of a detour, only about 200 miles.
How could I refuse. Took less than an hour to get ready and hit the road. Arrived at the public ramp at 8:00am. Expected to see a ton of folks already there. To our surpise the parking lot was about half full, and no line waiting to launch.
Headed north from the channel. Fished about two hours without a trout bite. Fished two foot to seven foot. Headed out to ten foot of water. Right away the bite was on. Live Pinfish and cut bait was all they would bite. Caught eight nice keepers with one being twenty-four inches is less than an hour. Then they shut down. Took another three hours to finish off our limit of ten. My partner and his wife fished with-in casting distance of us all day. They never even caught a short trout all day. Went in about 2:30. Still no line at the lift or the ramp.
Final tally for the day. Our boat- ten Trout with two over twenty, five Bluefish, one Spanish, two Rock Bass, two Blue Runners, and four large Porgys. My friends boat- Two Bluefish, two Rock Bass, and two Blue Runners.
We saw two Cobia. One following a bait, and one hooked for about five seconds on my wife's line.
Excellent day on the water with good friends. Not bad for a spur of the moment trip.

Good job of fish'n N report'n CS  Was your run'n buddy using the same bait and presentation as you?? Just wonder'n what might have made the diff in the catches between the two boats assuming you stayed fairly close together. (I've of course discounted the fact that your skill and expertise certainly accounted for some of the difference :D )

Chalk, I'll finish the boat and be fishing in it before you get yours layed out.
Sr, don't know why my partner and his wife wern't catching. We pulled up to thier boat. I rigged thier lines and showed them how to cut up Pinfish, but they still didn't catch fish. Really felt bad for them. We gave them all the fish that were caught. Made them feel a little better. They still had a great time. That's what counts.
