18 Oct 2016 Wakulla Beach

Post by Can'tCatchAnything »

Put the kayak in at Wakulla Beach to catch some of the high tide today. Floating grass and the east wind was pretty bad. Paddled straight out first, floating grass and wind was pretty intense. Then started a drift up Goose creek bay to fish the oyster bars. Tons of BIG jumping mullet everywhere, but no love in the bay for me. I started paddling out after slack high tide, turned the corner around the bay to start a drift back to the beach. Got into some good trout action, all trouts were 17 to 19 inches, mostly caught on DOA CAL in glow under the poppin' cork; the largest caught on a 17MR but the grass discouraged me from throwing it too much. Was throwing Zman 5" paddletails before the DOA and only had a few bites, the smaller DOA CAL were getting shredded through, went through 3 of them in 45 minutes.

Still after my fall redfish...

  Nice, glad you found some. I guess that means the road to the beach is open after the storm.
