Trout at the power plant?

Post by randymullaly »

Anybody tried fishing up the St. Marks river by the power plant yet this year? Going Friday and thinking about giving it a try. Usually starts to pick up when the water temp gets in the mid-low 60"s.

It might be worth trying, let us know how you do. I think we will try the Aucilla Friday.

I've always been curious... I know where the power plant is, but I don't know how people fish it. Is it in the main part of the river by the rocks? As I recall it's about 15 ft deep right there. Do folks fish popping corks or on the bottom?
NOAA reports are the reason I have trust issues.

To get to the power plant, put in at Shields or at the Fort. Go left and power plant just up on your left. Trout and reds come up into the river and great fishing. I usually troll from the power plant to up around the third bend in the river with a paddle tail grub on a jig head. Bottom fishing with shrimp can be productive as well. Sheep's Head, and mangrove snappers, etc…..
