Father/son trip to Venice

My buddy Joe and I took our sons to Venice for a blast and cast over New Years. We fished with Captain Patrick Dickinson of Dixie Riverside Charters and it was an amazing trip. I fished with captain Patrick in the spring, but had never hunted down there. Our weather forecast was terrible with wind and rain for the entire trip, but we were fortunate to only have a little rain. The warm weather made the fog incredibly thick so we had to be flexible about when and where we fished and hunted. We managed to shoot redheads, gadwalls, teal, canvasbacks, pintails, and had two bonus geese. We fished in the afternoons and it was tougher than in the spring. We launched in Venice the first day, but then the river was socked in with fog and unsafe so we trailered the boat to another location and found the fish. We ended up just short of our 4 man limit of reds in 1 hour and 30 minutes with a tohttp://s1374.photobucket.com/user/jwf3md/media/venice%20jan%2017%20037_zpsf0v7jtjx.jpg.html?filters[user]=141909902&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=4n of shorts thrown in. Incredible action. The next day the fog really hurt the duck hunting because we couldn't see the ducks and they couldn't see our decoys, and we ended up one bird short of our limit. Still we had our chances. A big group buzzed us and we all emptied our guns without cutting a feather. One bird out of that and we would have made it. We dodged rainstorms that afternoon and caught a bunch of shorts and 3 bulls before I had to get Joe to New Orleans. I can't say enough good things about our guides. They made the most out of tough conditions. This trip is definitely a bucket list headliner. Enjoy the pics.http://s1374.photobucket.com/user/jwf3m ... sort=1&o=0
