June 19th, Ecofina grouper

Left Saturday morning about 730 and went to the usual area about 19 miles out in 35-39 foot and trolled a tiger stripe green 30 ft stretch. Caught one gag in area but slow so went to next hole to bottom fish.
We did not have any live pin fish and used lys and squid. caught several short gags and reds. We really need to stop and catch some!
Decided to troll out south another 2 miles to 40 foot water and anchored on area with good bottom. There were 4 more boats , two fishing close to each other within 1/2 mile. We trolled and picked up another gag on same stretch and marked some bait and anchored down. Caught 3 red grouper just 21 inches and several shorts. Left them biting so we wouldn't use up the rest of the bait.
Went back to out other spot and ended the day with 9 total grouper: no real size but keepers ;only one short of our limit. We had more reds than gag but 2 gags were over 24 inches but far short of their usual size . The larger fish must have moved out but where? Several of our friends have fished deeper water but came back in to shallower water .
We ended the day early due to rumblings on the hill at Ecofina and beat in a bad thunderstorm. We again left them biting but I figure no grouper is worth being caught in a severe storm. Been there and done that inshore dont care to experience this off shore. Just call me chicken!
It was a perfect day, the seas were right and not too hot with slight breeze
so who can complain! The bimini sure makes a difference
Hope you all have a great week! Carla bear
