St. Marks 4/9

My good buddy, his wife, my girlfriend and I put in around 9 am at the fort and ran out. tide was low so we ran east and searched "good" water. was scared that the few cold mornings pushed them in a little or shut them down but, as usual I was wrong. I threw top water for the first half hour or so and was able to score a few keeper trout out of the couple dozen lady fish that wanted to eat. sun got up good and we caught everything else on a cork and jig. lost count on the amount of shorts we caught with about 8-9 keepers. a really good Spanish and a cobia. everything went back in the water!
the cobia bit out of nowhere. my buddy was reeling in and left his jig barely in the water while he did something in the boat and the cobia just came out of nowhere and took off. He fought it for a little bit and we finally got it in net. didn't have a ruler big enough to measure it as his only went to 22" but I would safely say 40 inches give or take. took some pictures and back in the water it went.
had a pretty good day! we don't normally fish on Sunday's but glad we decided to go!
