Had a good fishing day last Saturday, caught 30 keeper Rock Bass and 2 keeper Permit fish.

Fish Dux, I'm no expert, but that's what they looked like. They were both about 12 or 13 inches.

I fished Dickerson Bay yesterday didn't catch but one lady fish and about 5 or 6 sail cats. But it sure was a beautiful day on the water.

Did the fish look like this? If so, they were pompano, not permit. There are permit around offshore but it would be highly unusual to run across one near Grey Mare. Not saying it couldn't happen...

Permit are considered a game fish and are typically released.

Jack Crevale maybe?

That's it, looked exactly like that, except had a bone that ran through middle all the way to the split tail.

Bone or a ridge along the lateral line? May have been jack crevalle.

TomParis, if you've caught jack crevalle before and sure it wasn't crevalles, take a close look at the blue runner picture in the link Silverking shared -- they've got bony protrusion along the latter half of their body that sound a bit like you describe. My bet would be jacks or blue runners (and blue runners are actually in the jack family as well).

I think you are right a Blue Runner, we caught two of them in 10 feet of water out deeper from Grey Mare.

I wasn't making fun or anything just trying to be sure of the identity. If they were blue runners then they are a great fight at that size. Great kingfish bait too.
