4/22 Steinhatchee - Slooooow bite

Post by jsaunders »

Left the dock at 7:30am. Fished till 4:30pm. Only managed 7 keeper trout all day. Fished every water level from Dallus Creek to Pepperfish keys. Threw the entire tacklebox at them. They just weren't feeling it today I guess.

Nothing wrong with 7 trout. Sounds like a good day to me.

I guess. It just felt like a ton of casts for those 7 fish. 3 people casting non-stop for 9 hours.

Yea, probably 10 shorts, 4 ladyfish, and a bluefish.

They definitely pull. The one I caught was about 5 lbs. Fought like a freight train.

Sounds like you did OK, that was a long day of fishing though. A 5 lb. blue would be good filleted and grilled! :lick:

I threw him back. Didn't think they were good to eat.

. If you bleed them immediately and ice well. Then when cleaning remove the red meat I think they are excellent. Although people that don't like fish with anymore flavor than flounder will say they are not fit to eat.

I don't mind fish with a stronger flavor. I'll have to keep one to try next time.
