St. Marks Sunday

Put in at the old fort about 7 this morning. Don't know if I've seen the water as calm as it was today. It was slick the entire time we were out which was until about 1. Got out on an incoming high tide which was nice for a change. Fished some of the oyster bars on the river before the lighthouse with no luck. Went east of the lighthouse in 3-5ft with not much luck. Moved east before our first catch which was a short trout followed by a short Black Sea bass. First keeper was not far from Grey Mare, which was a keeper trout on a gold spoon. We then trolled to the grass and fished in 1.5-2 ft of water. Within 15 mins had our first slot red (24") on a jig head and gulp shrimp. About 10 mins after that my brother caught a slot red (23") on the same jig head and gulp shrimp. They were tailing pretty good today out in the grass. When we were trolling back out to deeper water we had about 10 tarpon swim by us in a group. We chased them around for a while but could not get them to bite anything. First time I've seen tarpon like that out there. Great day on the water and they seem to be biting pretty good.
