TROUT CATCHIN

Post by ALMAR »

CARL BROWN AND I WENT DOWN TO ST. MARKS YESTERDAY AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT WE CAUGHT TROUT. WE LAUNCHED THE BOAT AT THE LIGHTHOUSE POOL AT 6:30, THERE WERE TWO OTHER OLD SALTS THAT LAUNCHED JUST AHEAD OF US, THEY SAID THE TROUT WERE ON THE WEST FLATS AND TOLD US WHERE THEY HAD CAUGHT TROUT THE DAY BEFORE. WE WORKED THE BAR IN FRONT OF THE LIGHTHOUSE, THE REDS WERE BUSTIN BAIT FISH ALL UP AND DOWN THE BAR BUT THEY DID NOT WANT WHAT WE PRESENTED TO THEM. WE CAUGHT TWO KEEPER TROUT ALONG THE BAR AND THEN EVERYTHING SUDDENLY STOPPED, NO BAIT FISH, NO TOP WATER ACTION . WE DECIDED TO TAKE THE ADVISE THE TWO OLD SALTS GAVE TO US AND HEADED OUT TO THE WEST FLATS. WHEN WE SHUT THE KICKER DOWN WE STARTED CATCHING SOME NICE TROUT. CARL EASED THE ANCHOR DOWN AND WE CAUGHT 5 TROUT IN A ROW, 17-19", THEN THE ACTION STOPPED. WE PULLED THE ANCHOR AND STARTED DRIFTING TO THE S.W. BUT VERY SLOWLY. WE ENDED THE DAY AT 12 NOON. CAUGHT 28 TROUT ALL TOGETHER, ONLY HAD 5 THAT WERE NOT IN THE SLOT. WE WERE ON OUR WAY BACK TO TALLY AT 12:15 CAUGHT ALL OF THE LARGER TROUT ON HOME MADE PLUGS COPIED AFTER THE DEVIL HORSE AND THE DALTON SPECIAL . THE SMALLER TROUT WERE ALL CAUGHT WITH WHITE GRUBS WITH PINK TAILS. FINAL TOTAL 28 TROUT
I SPANISH
4 LADIES
1 BLUE
WHEN THE WIND STOPPED IT GOT UNBEARABLY HOT, WE HAD OUR LIMIT SO WE HEADED HOME.

Did you get in any rain? From our view at Lanark, it looked really rough over Panacea & St. Marks way.... Here is what it looked like from the bay.

We did not encounter any rain, about 11:00 the breeze died and it really got hot, we could see storms over toward Shell Point but we were long gone by the time they got to St Marks.
