I was planning on catching whatever was biting in front of the lighthouse and using it live and tail hooked but the fish kill probably got all the pinfish and croakers. What do you guys use for shark bait if you have to buy it and where could I get some?

I believe southern seafood will sell carcasses. A big ol grouper head should do it. Good luck

Is that near Tally or St. Mark's lighthouse?

Edit - never mind, I looked them up like I should have to begin with. Man, I know I'm new but I am loving this place. Thanks!

Sorry , should have been more specific. Also, Jerries bait and tackle on woodville hiway usually has frozen whole mullet, that would also work .good luck

SG is spot on w the Grouper or Mullet head. I've got mullet heads before free of charge at a local seafood market. If u have any Bream in ur freezer, they work well also. But check the law on that, not sure if it's legal to use as bait. I've done it before, but I also thought using a handgun or bangstick was legal to harvest a shark! Lol!

Not sure where you heard there was a major fish kill. Pinfish and mullet populations were not even touched. Ladyfish and blues were still around that area yesterday too.

Mullet is good, but ladyfish is my favorite. That being said, the biggest shark I ever fought came on a monster pinfish.

I know a lot of the guys that go after sharks use a big chunk of stingray wing.

I've done good using saltwater catfish, cut the head and barbs off, use the back 2/3's of the carcass with the guts intact; use some weight to keep the bait on the bottom.

I just made an assumption based on what I had read about the kill.

Mullet were present, pinfish were present, I saw some folks catch reds by the pilings.
