We're going to start the process of shopping for a reliable car for our daughter who turns 16 next year. If you know of someone's grandmother who can no longer drive and is selling their car at a good price let me know.

Price range from FREE to $8000

Looking for something similar to a 2008 Honda Civic

I know an elderly lady in Albany that is selling a Buick Lacerne or something like that. She loved it and I'm sure it's loaded but may be more than 8. I can get a number if you interested.

FYI, in the UK the only car she could get at 16 years of age would have pedals. :D
She would have to wait a year and then the insurance premiums would be prohibitive.

Sounds more like a car my wife would want.

We have 2 more coming up behind this one so we don't want to set the bar too high.

Best one we have found so far is an '08 Civic with 97k miles for $5,000 from a individual.

The Honda Fit is a great car too.

Also would recommend Mazda 3, VW Rabbit/Golf/Jetta (those 2.5 5 cylinder motors are bulletproof).

Or a Ford Ranger, 2.3 I4 and manual trans.

Been there done that twice for our girls. We have some accounts at a local credit union. They have a woman that does all the leg work for you. Tell her what kind of car the monthly payment (my girls pay their car note not me.) and she will look all over and find it and do all the haggling for you. finance with CU EZPZ. Both girls have Honda accords LX's. one is an 07 and the other is an 08.

I think my mom is still selling a 2012 VW Jetta (silver) that was my uncle's. He was a neat freak and the car is immaculate. I think it has something like 45k miles on it. She was holding it for my sister's kid but I think that fell thru. I will ask her tonight. She was asking $8500 but I'm guessing she would take 8.
