Have a friend staying at Alligator Pt. next week. Wants me to take him fishing. I'm always on the fly so don't really know how to approach setting up a spin rig for him. Will be in yaks or on foot. Any advice as to how and where for some trout , reds, ? Thanks

There are so many things you can do but an 1/8oz jighead and some sort of jerk shad/ swim bait should be fine. 3000 or less size reel and a 6.5-7.5’ medium action rod with <20lb line.

Gold spoon is another stable for picking up reds and trouts in that area. Couldn't be easier just fan cast everywhere. Also be 100% sure that you're trolling your baits behind the yak as you move from spot to spot, you'll pick up half your fish that way! Just toss them back, set your drag light and forget about them until you're hooked up.

Cajun thunder popping cork with a jighead/Gulp and play with leader depth but I get more action with longer. Don't reinvent the wheel.

There's better things at certain times but this rig simply catches fish.

If there's floating grass it's a pain to use though.. I'd go with a gold spoon in that scenario.

I’d keep your gulp color choices simple too. Get only 2. Something (new penny, or new penny/chartreuse) and pearl white.
