Is it normal to be asked for bank statements, tax return, and pay stubs to apply for an apartment lease in New York?

I think those things could be asked for to apply for an apartment anywhere. They need to know you can pay

I was asked for all that stuff in Indianapolis, then Atlanta, then Florida.
I grew up in New York State, I’m sure its no different there!

It's not uncommon to add a background check and credit check to that as well.
