Fluorocarbon Line.

I use Flurocarbon line for my hook lenghts/leaders when sea fishing.
On my recent Trip over there, it was the one item I forgot to stock up on.
The brand I purchased about two years ago was Momoi, (or something similar).
It seemed good material and was certainly abrasion resistant on the Irish reefs, but the knot holds were a bit suspect on the larger breaking strains, when it was inclined to slip on some knot patterns.

I would be buying 15lb, 30lb, 50lb and 150lb breaking strains.

Any personal experience recommendations, would be greatly appreciated.
As would any online, best purchasing deal, locations.

I have not tried it, but they have a good selection at the Wally-world in
Perry.

Seaguar claims to be the inventors of the fluorocarbon leader material. http://www.seaguar.com/store.html.

Blue Marlin Chronicles carries the line and has free shipping -

Currently using #40 Triple Fish Fluro, better value than Seaguar. Have not had any issues with knot problems, or anything else for that matter. On the larger strains, say #50 or greater, I much prefer to use sleeves, and crimp them.

I have used Stren fishing line for leaders (to save money) it didn't tie knots very well at all. Ande fluoro leader is better than the Stren and maybe 30% less costly than Seaguar, it seemed to work well.

I think Seaguar is the best of those that I have used.

Bass Pro and Cabela's are completely reliable to order from. I have also ordered (once) from eangler.com with good results. Jann's Netcraft has impressive service, don't know what they carry in that line right off hand.

This one time I tied up some grouper rigs with 80# Seagar and CS Marine borrowed one and the knot failed on a fish

DS..My floro is better than your floro :-D I use Seaguar. If you have a problem with the knot slipping, tie a single knot on the tag end. It won't slip through with that on there.

Well, it looked as though Seaguar was the best bet, but it fell at the last fence.

Any thoughts about the Ande and Sufix fluorocarbon leader range ?
I know that both their standard mono ranges are well thought of.

A comment on Cabelas internet ordering....... they have really increased their handling charges for UK orders from the US.
Including postage, it adds between 35-40% to the purchase price.
They have opened a UK Ordering Agent, which is a good idea, but the products are about 30-40% more expensive than in the US catalogue.
Coincidence ? I think not.

I wouldn't discount Seaguar just because Atticus' granny knot failed. :-D

I'm surprised you can't buy fluorocarbon leader in the U.K.

I only use Seaguar, 80# for grouper, 50# for snapper. I double wrap and crimp the connections to the swivel and hook. While fishing, if I get cut off or the leader becomes too abraded, I'll re-tie using a palomar knot...no problems. It seems to be easier to tie after it's been soaking in the ocean for a while. If I happen to get rocked up and have to break off using 65# power pro, it will literally spin the boat around before failing.

I think it's important to double wrap, or use a figure of eight before crimping. The fluoro is much denser than mono and doesn't compress well in the sleeve. I've had straight crimps fail before (even double crimps).

I have no problems with Seguar at all. I have started snelling my hooks with it and I can tie it just fine. For the flats I use Vanish 20 lb for leaders.

What Ken K said, don't let my knot failure scare you away, I still use the stuff I just can't snell very well with it :hammer:

I have used Seaguar for over a year now with good results. #20 for inshore and #50 - #80 for offshore. Use palamor and surgeons knots and have never had a problem

Seaguar it is then.
Thanks very much for the help.

We can buy fluroucarbon line in the UK, but only up to about 12lb bs.
It is also expensive.
Typically, we will have to pay twice the US price, often for an inferior product.

Try http://www.eangler.com or http://www.japantackle.com
I don't know how much it cost to ship to UK but they both do.
