Arrived at camp Friday afternoon and was greeted by a big ol' thunderstorm. After it blew over we loaded the crab pots on the boat and went and dropped them in for a soak. Later Friday night I went out with a neighbor on his airboat and cast-netted 22 nice mullet in the creeks. It was a 0 tide and boy howdy did we see some scary prop-eating stuff on the edge of the flats and creek mouths. Pretty cool though.
Saturday morning we headed out to the bird racks to fish 8-9 ft. of water because that's what I was told I should do. Worked out pretty well as we picked up 5 nice eater trout from 16-18 inches. Only caught 1 short fish. Added a rock bass to the cooler and decided to call it as the tide got slack. Oh yeah, it was HOT! Fish were caught on a variety of grubs with a chartreuse tail under a popper with a 3 ft. leader. Grabbed the crab pots on the way to the hill and they yielded us 14 nice blue crabs for the boil we had planned for Saturday night. Not too shabby for only a 20 hour soak. Returned to camp, cleaned the crabs and relaxed a little while and then had a big time with the neighbors. Great trip, great place, great friends.
