I'm interested in buying a 50 hp 2-stroke engine for my boat. Anybody on here know of a dealership that sells them that can give me a deal? I'm in So. Ga. Thanks.

Most all marine dealers will have some used outboards available. There are also some on Craig's List, but I would recommend getting a Purchase Check done if you buy one. Any reputable mechanic will go through the motor for about $200 +/- and give you a list of anything they find wrong. They check compression, foot oil, water pump, etc.
Good luck in your search.

Moved from the duplicate post...
Give Brett at Shields Marina in St. Marks a call. They are a dealer for Evinrude E-TEC two-strokes. Light, good fuel economy and lots of torque.

Isn't Evinrude/Johnsons all Tohatsu's in the smaller HP. I know Mercury's have been for quite awhile. I believe its 50hp and under, but I am hoping someone may have more info or could clarify. Outside of Yamaha and Suzuki, I believe just about everyone is slapping their cowlings on Tohatsu's engines in the smaller HP.

Not sure about which ones are rebranded, but I have owned a 1997 40hp two stroke (bought new) and I traded it in on a new 2016 50hp four stroke. I can't say anything bad about either one of them. and neither one of them have seen fresh water except from a water hose.

Johnson engines are long gone. Smaller HP Evinrudes are not made by Tohatsu. Mercury had a partnership years ago, but I'm pretty sure all their engines are made by Mercury now, here and abroad.

I think evinrude are the only 2 strokes left, all others will be four strokes.

This thread piqued my curiosity. My current 4-stroke couldn't hold a candle to my older 2-stroke on my small jon boat. I found Tohatsu also makes a 2-stroke going from 25hp to 115hp. It's also direct-injected instead of carburetored. I too thought it was only Evinrude making these.

I recently went from a 1997 Yamaha 25 2-smoker to a 2015 Yamaha F25 on my Gheenoe LT25 skiff. While the old 25 was super light and ran great, it was hard to start when cold, smoked, was loud, burned fuel like a Saudi Prince, and I had to mix oil in the gas which is a pita.
The newer 25 is HEAVY......but it cranks with a 1/2 pull, is super quiet, has a shift handle on the tiller, burns WAY less fuel, and interestingly is about 1 mph faster than the old 25. The holeshot is also very similar, which pleasantly surprised me.
So I'm happy with the change, but honestly, the old 25 was a great motor too.
